Whoop Data Confirms the SR1

How do you know if you are getting a good night sleeps?

Personal fitness trackers are great. Many include information and feedback on your quality of sleep.

This post includes a collection of screen shots from the WHOOP band software.

Here is a full night, 100% sleep score where I initially activated the SR1 sleep device when going to sleep, and reactivated it twice at around 3:30 and 4:30 a.m., as that is typically when I am awake in the night. The WHOOP data shows that using the SR1 sleep device I was able to fall back asleep, and get another 2 – 2 1/2 hours restorative sleep, with sleep stages deep and REM being part of the extra sleep cycles achieved.

Here is another example: a snapshot of 3 nights of sleep, as depicted by the WHOOP data. As you can see, I get up in the middle of the night to stoke 4 fireplaces (I live off grid in British Columbia and we use wood heat) so I am very awake, and use the SR1 sleep device to get back to sleep. Note the short sleep latency once activated. Nov. 14 was a shorter awake period as it wasn’t very cold that night, so I only stoked one fireplace.

On a note, before using the SR1 a year ago, I would typically stay up or get minimal sleep afterwards, as I couldn’t go back to sleep. As you can see, I can now continue with restorative sleep, which certainly supports my recovery. WHOOP really helps depict my sleep habits.

Documented Bear incident:

Not sure how many other mountain men are using the WHOOP technology, but this was one of the first nights using the WHOOP device. I was awaken at 4:30 in the morning by my dog barking alerting me to a massive black bear attacking some of our livestock. As you can see around 5:00 a.m. is when I was in the heat of the moment encountering the bear. My heart rate ran through the roof. This makes for a very interesting bit of data.

It took a bit to come down off of this encounter, and I used the SR1 sleep device to get back to sleep. Although it was restless sleep, I still managed to get another hour in. Then around 8:00 a.m. I went back out to the site of the attack to assess all the damage, where my heart rate ran back up just checking the scene of the carnage. Very interesting stuff. You can read more about the bear attack here.

Just to confirm that these results are due to the SR1- here is a sample from a client, depicting the use of the SR1 sleep device, while quantifying with the WHOOP technology.  He mentions a short sleep latency, with a few re-activations of the sleep device during the night, as revealed in the data points

More examples of the power of the SR1 as confirmed by WHOOP Data

The following reveals a recovery score of 93%, after awakening post 7 + hours sleep, I was awake for 1 1/2 hours, and encouraged myself back to sleep with the SR1 sleep device. I had actually gotten up for the day, but felt I wanted to get more sleep, so I went back to bed. It took a few minutes for the SR1 sleep device to lull me out, but it ultimately did. There was a profound improvement in my HRV scores. Learn more about HRV here.
